For immediate release. 4 Feb 13
Winter Warmth Club offers free loft and cavity wall insulation
Winter Warmth Club, the new winter support service from Bath & North East
Somerset Council, is offering free loft and cavity wall insulation to eligible residents,
in partnership with the Warm Streets scheme.
According to figures from the Energy Saving Trust, loft and wall insulation could
save householders £30 a month in fuel bills. Now, householders and privately-renting
tenants who are over 60 or in receipt of means tested benefits could receive the
improvements for free, subject to survey.
Councillor Simon Allen (Lib-Dem, Radstock), Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said,
“This is an excellent opportunity for local people to take advantage of an offer that
will save them money and help them to become more energy efficient.
“The Warm Streets insulation offer is the best on the market, thanks to the grants that
are available and the use of Diamond Bead, which is the best performing cavity wall
insulation and 25% more efficient than fibre insulation.”
The Winter Warmth Club, launched by the Council in January, offers free, practical
support and advice on how to stay warm and well in winter. It is available to all
residents of Bath & North East Somerset and in particular, those who are vulnerable
or older.
Warm Streets also provides free and impartial energy saving advice. Phillip Morris,
Project Manager for Warm Streets said: “This is a fantastic offer which will not only
improve your home, making it more comfortable, but will also reduce your fuel bills.
Having your home insulated can save you hundreds of pounds, and there’s never been
a better time to get this work done.”
West of England Care and Repair, the Red Cross, Age UK, Curo and the Centre for
Sustainable Energy have all teamed up with the Winter Warmth Club to offer their
services. Examples of other support available include: home visits from Red Cross
staff or volunteers, discounted heating repairs and improvements using trusted
contractors, draught proofing, path clearance and advice on benefits, grants and
